Celebrating National Love Your Pet Day: February 20
How will you celebrate this special day?
February 20th is National Love Your Pet Day. Be sure to show your pet how much you love them!
February is the month of love.
First, we have Valentine’s Day. But that’s not the day we’re talking about today.
We’re talking about February 20th, National Love Your Pet Day.
This is a day to pay extra attention to our pets, to pamper our pets, and to show them just how much they mean to us. While we can show love to our pets every day, this is a special and fun day, just for them, to show your pets how very special they are to you.
Here are some fun and creative ways to make this a fun day for both you and your pet.

Take Care of Their Health
Okay, this might not be so fun but it’s important. Take this opportunity to make sure all your pet’s health needs are covered.
Need to get your pet microchipped?
Make the appointment.
Need to arrange their vaccinations?
Make the call.
Need to renew your dog’s license?
Get it done.
Need to book an appointment with your pet groomer?
Yep, you know what to do.
Special Treat or Meal
Okay, now we can get to the fun stuff. Does your pet have a favourite snack?
Do you want to try your hand at making your own homemade pet treats? It can be such fun, and quite easy, to make your very own treats for your little friends. You can do baked or no-bake options that will thrill your canine and feline companions. And, best part, they won’t judge you if they’re not quite perfect.
Is there something extra special that you can do to make meal time extra special for them such as a food topper or broth for their dinner bowl? You can add a little something extra to their bowl to get them extra excited to dig in and enjoy.
As long as you don’t overdo it, this is a great way to give your pets fun treats that will make them feel your love.
Want kind of toys does your pet love?
Treat your furry little friend to a new toy and be ready to play!
New Toy or Game
Does your cat love catnip? Does she enjoy chasing things across the floor such as balls or toy mice or would she prefer a feather wand toy?
Maybe your dog enjoys a good game of fetch. Maybe he prefers a serious tug fest. Maybe an interactive treat puzzle is more his style. Maybe a stuffed toy would be a good choice for your furry little friend.
Take a look at their current toys and see if any are worn out and need repair, cleaning, or replacement. This is a great opportunity to make sure their toys are safe and in good shape and to get new ones if they have a favourite type.
Treat your pet to a new toy, whether you purchase it or make it yourself. Sometimes a small ball of yarn, an old t-shirt braided into a tug rope, or even a cardboard box can provide oodles of entertainment.
The best part is, you then get to play with your pet and witness their joy and delight. Be sure to take full advantage!
Outdoor Adventure
If you have a dog, taking them hiking or walking, especially on a new trail will be sure to delight them.
Even walking a different route through your neighbourhood will give them a fresh set of smells to explore.
If your dog prefers to play in your yard or a local dog park, give them some extra play time and be sure to join in on their fun and games.
Outdoor Adventures
Take your dog to a brand new place to explore, whether that’s a new trail, a new park, or a new route around your neighbourhood
Spa Day
If you want to pamper your dog or cat, a spa day might be just the thing. This doesn’t need to include a bath if that’s too stressful for you and your pet.
Set the mood with some calming music and soft lighting. You can even put a video on YouTube with nature sights and sounds or music specifically for pets. There’s tons of options that will relax both your and your pet.
Give your pet a thorough brushing and clean their fur with waterless shampoo or pet-safe wipes, and clean their ears. Take your time and don’t push your pet too hard. Remember, this is to relax them.
If they need breaks or are showing signs of annoyance, just give them a little rest and try again.
You can rub paw treatment into their paw pads if they’re dry and trim their nails if that’s not too stressful.
If your pet gets a little nervous, you can give them a treat like a lick mat to distract and relax them.
Last, but not least, give them a gentle, relaxing massage to complete their spa treatment. Your pet will smell good and feel great!
Clean Blankets and Beds
Who doesn’t love freshly cleaned bedding? Ah, that smell!
Your pets will love it if you wash all their blankets and pillows. Even if it’s not your regular laundry day, why not give your pets a great end to their day(or a great mid-day nap) with some fluffy clean bedding?
Later, you can put on a movie, cuddle up under one of those blankets with your fur kid and share your popcorn (plain and unsalted, of course).
Give Them Your Attention
The one thing your pet will love the most on this day is time spent with you.
Remember, pets are a wonderful part of your life. But, for them, you are their whole world.
This is a day to celebrate our pets and give them all the love we can.
Every day should be Love Your Pet Day. But why not make this one day extra, extra special?
