**Make this adorable cat wreath**

*With just a few inexpensive supplies and a little creativity, you can make this sweet kitty moon wreath for your door or wall.*

This week, I was looking at our front door and realized it needed a good cleaning. I also decided it needed a little decoration. It’s just a plain white door and it really needed a little something special to get into the Fall spirit.

And, of course, because it’s me, I knew it should include something pet-themed! So, the search began for the purr-fect decor piece for our front door!

I chose to create this harvest crescent moon wreath with an adorable, playful kitty silhouette. I’m so glad I did. It was SO easy to make and I’m SO happy with the results!

By shopping at the local dollar store, I was able to make it for under $15 and have enough supplies left to make several more, other than buying more wreath frames.

What You’ll Need

Okay, let’s make sure we have all our supplies on hand!

Truth told, I misplaced my glue gun and glue sticks. I had to get a little creative with the jute rope to tie on my decor pieces and silhouette. But everything is secure so I may not even bother with the glue.

You will find, though, that it’s easier with the glue gun so if you have one, I suggest you use it.

But, I can confirm, it’s possible to do this craft without any glue at all.

Supplies

Wire wreath frame(14-18”) - I used a 14” frame
Burlap ribbon(2-3” wide)
Jute rope
Assorted Harvest or Halloween artificial flowers, leaves, pumpkins, etc.)
Black foamboard (or thin balsa wood and black paint or double layered black felt)
Battery operated fairy lights(optional)

Tools

Scissors
Wire cutters
Electrical tape(or masking tape)
Cat silhouette stencil (click HERE to print your own)
Pencil
Exacto knife
Hot glue gun and glue sticks or craft glue(optional, but recommended)

How to Make the Wreath

Okay, it’s time to make your kitty moon wreath! Assemble all your supplies on a table or desk and get ready to get creative!

Step 1

Use your wire cutters to snip and remove one or two sections from the wreath frame to create a gap. The idea is to be able to bend the wires together and form a crescent moon.

Step 2

Pull the cut ends of the wires together to form the crescent moon and tape the ends with electrical tape, masking tape, or duct tape to secure them together and to cover the sharp ends.

Step 3

Wrap the burlap ribbon (or fabric ribbon or strips) tightly around the frame to cover it completely by overlapping the ribbon as you wrap. You can secure the ends with hot glue. I just tucked mine in securely.

Step 4

Start arranging your greenery, faux flowers, berries, or mini pumpkins from the center point of the crescent, angling them outwards in both directions for a balanced design. You may have to bend the stems slightly to get your greenery to follow the edge of the moon design. Glue the decor in place. I didn’t use glue and opted to use the jute rope wound around the stems several times and tied securely.

Step 5

If you would like to light up your wreath with fairy lights, start in the center of the wreath so you can hide the battery control box behind the decor and continue to wrap the frame and amongst the decor to cover the whole moon. I started in the center, moved downwards, then back upwards, until it was covered with fairy lights.

I had a short tail of lights hanging from the top tip of the moon-this becomes an important detail later.

Step 6

Print out the cat silhouette pattern and place it on a piece of black foamboard or balsa wood sheet that you will paint black later. The cat should be small enough to fit inside the curve of the moon but small enough not to completely fill the space.

Step 7

Trace the silhouette onto the board using a pencil. If you’re using black felt, glue two layers together to make it firm enough so it doesn’t sag. Using your exacto blade or utility knife(or scissors if cutting felt), carefully cut out the silhouette.

If you are using wood for your silhouette, paint it on both sides and the edges with black acrylic paint and allow it to dry completely.

Step 8

Position the cat silhouette onto the wreath and adjust its position to your liking. I was able to adjust mine so that it’s outreached paw was reaching up to touch the tail of the fairy lights.

If your wreath isn’t lit with fairy lights or you weren’t able to leave a tail hanging, you can tie on a mini pumpkin or small leaf from the top of the wreath so the cat will be “swatting” it.

Secure the silhouette into place with hot glue or, in my case, a piece of jute rope tied through the tail area.

Get Creative!

My wreath felt like it needed a little something extra in the center of the crescent moon so I added some extra leaves. You can add a bow or a big artificial flower or any other decor to make it look balanced and complete.

Remember, you can switch up the decor and go with more of a Halloween theme. You can wrap the moon with black or orange fabric, add more pumpkins, skulls, ghosts, or other Halloween decor pieces to make it your own design.
